| 1. |
Do I need to be Scottish to have a tartan? |
| |
No, not necessarily. There are many clan tartans which, of course,
identify many Scottish family names. There are also general and district tartatns.
Tartans such as the Jacobite, Caledonia, Hunting Stewart and even the Black Watch
are considered general tartans and can be used by those who cannot claim any
connection to a clan. District tartans are probably the oldest tartans and, of course,
originated in Scotland. Today they are found in many areas that have a strong
Celtic tradition. |
| |
 |
| |
| 2. |
What districts have their own tartans? |
| |
Of course Scotland and
the British Isles have the most district tartans but they are
becoming more and more popular in other parts of the world. For example,
all of the provinces in Canada have their own tartan. Other countries with district
tartans are Australia, the Bahamas, Bermuda, the United States
and the Netherlands. |

How do I know if my family name has a tartan? |
| |
The easiest way to check out your family
or district tartan is to visit the web site
Tartans of Scotland at http://www.tartans.scotland.net/ |

| 4. |
Do you have a kit
in my tartan? |
| |
I
have over 100 tartan patterns available at the
moment. If your tartan is not listed, I can design a
pattern for you at no additional cost. All you need
to do is supply me with the necessary information. |
| |
 |
| |
| 5. |
What is the difference between ancient and modern colours? |
| |
Ancient colours are lighter and have a more faded look since the ancient dyes were
made from natural plants and herbs. Modern colours are usually darker and more
intense because of our modern chemical dyes. |

I have never
done latch hooking before. Is it difficult to do? |
| |
No,
it's not difficult at all. Latch hooking is a simple
process whereby short strands of wool are knotted onto a
canvas webbing. The method is explained (along with
diagrams) in your set of instructions. Once you have
done the process a time or two, it becomes very automatic
and your speed increases. It's quite therapeutic, very
satisfying and certainly a lot of fun. |

| 11. |
How long does it
take to complete a rug? |
| |
I
must have been asked this question a thousand times.
I wish I could give a short answer, but the best I can do
is, "It depends". It depends on many
factors:
|
 |
the size of the rug |
 |
the speed of the worker |
 |
the amount of available time one has to work on it |
|
Generally, I would say that a medium sized rug might take up to 3 months if a
person works on it only in his/her spare time. If you are serious about getting it
finished right away, then maybe a month.
|
| |
 |
| |
| 12. |
Is the canvas
stamped? |
| |
No.
It is much more accurate working from a coloured graph and
counting the rows - very much like doing needlepoint or
counted cross stitch, but easier since the scale is much
larger. The coloured pattern in each kit clearly
marks the number of rows to do in each colour. |
| |
 |
| |
| 13. |
How are these rugs
cleaned? Are they washable? |
| |
These
rugs are 100% wool. The beauty of working with wool
is that it is a natural fibre and naturally repels a lot
of dirt on its own. A good shaking or vacuuming is
probably all it would need for a long time. The wool
is washable and can be washed by hand, bearing in mind
that the rug becomes very heavy when saturated with
water. The rugs can also be dry cleaned. |
| |
 |
| |
| 14. |
What is the return policy? |
| |
A refund for the full price of the rug kit will be given up to 30 days after the
purchase date. The kit must be returned in its original condition and accompanied by
the Bill of Sale. Replacements of individual items within the kit will be made at any
time should problems arise. |
| |
 |
| |
| 15. |
How is the shipping charge determined? |
| |
Shipping charges are extra and must be added to the kit prices.
Rate differences are determined by destination and mode of transportation - air or surface. |
| |
All rates are in Canadian funds. Two rates are given. The higher rate is for large kits,
and the lower rate for medium and small kits. |
